Rising Star Awards
Arthur C. Greene Rising Star Awards Celebration
Each autumn for the past 18 years, PCA’s Arthur C. Greene Rising Star Award has celebrated high school students who excel in the arts. Arthur C. Greene was an actor, director, and Professor of Drama at the University of Virginia from 1960-1992. He devoted a large part of his life to encouraging the talents of young people, and the awards were so named in his honor.
This year marks the 19th anniversary of the award, which PCA has given to more than 250 students, many of whom continue to study the arts in college and become arts professionals. The Rising Star program is the only awards opportunity for high school students in a wide range of arts genres, including visual arts, film, drama, music, and writing. We also receive nominations from area nonprofits, such as Live Arts, Light House Studio, Charlottesville Ballet, and Tupelo Press Teen Writing Center.
On October 2, 2015, from 5:30-7:30pm at CitySpace, PCA will host the annual Rising Star Awards Celebration & Exhibition Opening to honor the 2015 Rising Star winners. The program, held every autumn, features student performances, awards ceremony, reception, and gallery exhibition featuring students’ accomplishments. The event is FREE and open to the public.
In addition to a certificate of achievement, each student receives a locally crafted Rising Star pin made by Jan Elmore.
Beginning in 2015, students are also admitted to a Rising Stars Alumni Network, where they will be able to connect with past recipients for networking and mentorship opportunities. If you have received a Rising Star award at any point in the program’s 19-year history, please contact us.
