Have you ever listened to popular storytelling radio programs like The Moth and wondered what goes into telling a great story in front of a live audience? Here is your chance to learn how!
PCA and The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative are excited to co-sponsor “Telling True Stories,” a six-session course that will help you find the stories in your life and craft them into funny, moving, honest performances.
The course will be taught by Joel Jones, a veteran of the New York storytelling scene, and founder of bigbluedoor.org. The first four sessions will utilize exercises, examples, in-class practice, and homework both to help you identify what from your life makes good stories, and to help you craft this material into narratives that draw in your listeners and takes them on a journey. Over the last two sessions with guidance of the instructor and the input of your classmates, you’ll pick one of your stories to revise, rehearse and perform at a class show in September.
Classes will be held on Sundays from 6:00-8:30pm. The specific dates are: July 15, July 22, July 29, August 5, August 19, and August 26. There will be a class performance on September 4 at 8:00pm at The Bridge PAI.
Tuition for the course is $120 and is payable by check. Register for the class at The Bridge PAI’s office during regular visiting hours (Monday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm) beginning July 1.
