Photographs by Ed Roseberry at CitySpace

Photographer Ed Roseberry in 1962 and 2012 Celebrate! 250 presents an exhibit of photographs by Ed Roseberry depicting Charlottesville since the 1940s.

Ed Roseberry moved to Charlottesville in 1939 as a teenager. After serving in the military during World War II, he returned to Charlottesville and attended the University of Virginia where he studied photography. In his many years here, Roseberry has photographed sporting events, celebrities, fraternity parties, parades, and even aerial views of the city. He has amassed a collection of tens of thousands of images of life here. You can read a profile of the photographer in UVA Magazine here.

The current exhibit in the CitySpace Gallery, titled “Roseberry’s Charlottesville,” is a small sampling of this extensive collection. For a peek at the exhibit and to hear a podcast interview with Roseberry, click here and scroll down to “Roseberry’s Charlottesville.”

The public is invited to a special reception honoring the work of Ed Roseberry this evening from 6:00-8:00pm at CitySpace (100 5th Street NE on the Downtown Mall). Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
