Meet Caitlin, PCA's Summer Intern

The end of this week marks my 4th week here at PCA and it simply remarkable to look back at the multitude of projects and things that PCA and myself have accomplished in one month. I will be a 4th year at the University of Virginia, double majoring in Latin American Studies and Music and have always had a deeply cultivated interest for the arts, but more recently developed an area interest in non-profit work. PCA has already given me invaluable experience of what it’s like working hands-on in the non-profit realm.

What have you been involved in so far at PCA?
Thus far I have been lending much of my assistance toward the various programs that PCA offers, including the PCA Presents: Women in the Arts exhibition, the Rising Star Awards Celebration, and the Arts Community Education Handbook, as well as filing and database work. It is always amazing to see how much can be accomplished in this office here at McGuffey.

What has been your best experience at PCA thus far?
I don’t think the average person would call this the “best experience”, but the unpredictable circumstances of the Women in the Arts preview party and exhibition was nonetheless an exciting adventure with the absence of electricity. It added an exciting quality to the party that I don’t think could have been achieved otherwise.

What is your involvement in the arts like at UVA?
At the university, I am currently the President of the Virginia Belles, the university’s oldest all-female a cappella group, have performed in numerous musicals, and choreographed shows such as Footloose, She Loves Me, and West Side Story. I currently serve on the UVA Music Arts Board for 2010-2011, where our mission is to feature and present an outstanding musical artist and performance to raise students’ awareness of and appreciation for the arts.

I am so appreciative for everything that PCA does for the arts in our community and it is my hope that I can give back as much to the organization during my time here.
