Meet Adrienne Wager, PCA Member Artist
Adrienne Wager
Genre/Medium: Classical Harpist
Where are you from? What brought you to (or back to, or kept you from leaving) Charlottesville? Oklahoma City, OK. My fiance is from Charlottesville, so I moved here to “check things out” and got a job teaching harp at JMU within two weeks, so I figured Charlottesville was a good choice for me!
What are your favorite things to do around Charlottesville? Spending time with friends, taking in the beautiful scenery, enjoying the thriving arts scene in Charlottesville.
What inspires your creativity? Performing, and of course my harp students constantly inspire me.
What do you love most about what you do? The reward of playing a perfect (or near perfect) performance, seeing the amazing progress of my students, being not only a teacher but a mentor and friend to my students, having an audience member come up to me and tell me I inspire them. Being a contributer in a small way to the arts community in Charlottesville.
What are the challenges and opportunities you face as an artist? Challenges are finding work in a tough economy, maintaining the many networks and relationships needed to be a working artist, the disappointment of having a student quit. Opportunities in the arts are all about recognizing and taking advantage of all possible opportunities, and if there aren’t any, creating them for yourself. I’m all about creating opportunities, not only for myself but for others.
What are your favorite ways to stay connected with the arts community in Charlottesville? Going to PCA’s Arts Drinks!
