Local VSA arts Program Receives Recognition
Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department recently received recognition from the Virginia Recreation and Parks Society at the VRPS Annual Awards Banquet in Richmond for its VSA arts and Therapeutic Recreation Programs. Funding for the arts and therapeutic programs come from the City of Charlottesville and the County of Albemarle
The VSA arts calendar, featuring art work by 13 local VSA artists with disabilities, received an award in the category of Best Promotional Piece. The calendar, which is published annually, features art work and information on the local VSA program and City Therapeutic Recreation Program. The first calendar was published in 2007.
Mary Miller, a community volunteer with the local VSA arts Program and Charlottesville Parks & Recreation Department, received the Outstanding Volunteer Award for the year. Mary donated over $11,000 of professional services in photography, writing, community advocacy, special event planning, agency coordination, class instructor and media relationship to help VSA arts and the Charlottesville Therapeutic Recreation Program promote and expand high quality art and therapeutic recreation activities with in the Charlottesville community.
