Join Les Yeux du Monde this Saturday, September 22 for a special celebration of the launch of the non-profit Lydia Csato Gasman Archives for Picasso and Modernist Studies. The Archive was started by Victoria Beck Newman and Lyn Bolen Warren, former students of Gasman’s who are dedicated to preserving her lifelong studies, publishing her books, and making her work assessable for research to wider audiences.
An artist, Picasso scholar, and professor of modernist art history at the University of Virginia, Gasman was known for her charismatic nature, and students would rush to her lectures to hear her brilliant insights and analyses of Picasso. Her work includes an endless collection of manuscripts, papers, and books analyzing Picasso’s paintings.
The exhibit Picasso, Lydia, and Friends features her notes and carefully deconstructed Picasso’s Writings, some of Picasso’s prints that reflect the themes Gasman developed, and work by her fellow colleagues and friends who shared parts of her artistic vision including Dean Dass and David Summers. For more information about Gasman, the Archive, or the exhibit, be sure to check out this article in the Cville Weekly.
The launch of the Archive begins at 6:00pm with drinks and hors d’eouvres in Les Yeux du Monde gallery amidst the exhibit. Dinner will be served at 7:30pm, and a silent auction will follow.
Tickets are $100. For more information or to RSVP, please call (434) 973-5566 or email LydiaGasmanArchives@gmail.com.
