Communications Manager

Piedmont Council of the Arts (PCA), the designated arts agency of Charlottesville and Albemarle, seeks candidates for the Communications Manager position. PCA offers programs and services for artists and arts organizations, educators, and young people and also serves the community at large by coordinating arts-related initiatives with area partners.

Working closely with the Executive Director, the Communications Manager supports this work through the following responsibilities:

  • Daily maintenance and improvement of www.charlottesvillearts.org (including arts directories, blog posts, arts opportunities, program descriptions etc.);
  • Creation and distribution of bi-weekly e-newsletter, The Arts In Your Inbox;
  • Training and management of 10-15 online arts calendar volunteers;
  • Marketing, planning, and administrative support for PCA workshops, events, and programs such as Art Drinks and the Creative Conversation Series;
  • Ongoing management of web-based and other inquires to PCA;
  • Membership recruitment and communication with members;
  • Development and dissemination of press and marketing materials;
  • Administrative, fundraising and database support as needed.

Requirements include: Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills; desire to work with and for local arts community; project management skills; design sensibility; computer and web proficiency; ability to think creatively and strategically. Strong interpersonal skills and self-starter attitude are a must. Familiarity with the arts community, volunteer management experience, website / graphic design skills a plus.

This part-time position (20 hours/week) is integral to the realization of PCA’s vision to be the nexus for all things arts-related in the Charlottesville-area community. The selected candidate will be directly involved in the local arts community, support a growing nonprofit arts organization, and gain experience in an energetic and professional work environment. Enthusiastic individuals with an interest in serving communities through the arts are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should have 1-2 years of related work experience, preferably in an arts, communications, and/or nonprofit setting. Salary commensurate with experience.
