Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 21 because the George Melvin Education Fundraiser is back for a third time at Fellini’s #9 Restaurant on the Downtown Mall! Join in the fun from 3:00pm to 2:00am!
The George Melvin Educational Fund was created within weeks of the death of the beloved jazz keyboard artist on April 15, 2010.
Since its inception, the Charlottesville Jazz Society has accepted additional contributions to the Fund at the Monthly Educator Series meetings. The George Melvin Educational Fund has enabled the Charlottesville Jazz Society to offer a package of jazz teaching resources to both Albemarle County Schools and Charlottesville City Schools.
Additionally, grants have been created for city and county high school students who are musically gifted, in need of financial assistance for lessons, and show a love for Jazz. Youth who are selected for this award also have access to additional mentoring opportunities through the Charlottesville Jazz Society’s events.
