Join us on Friday, December 2 from 6:00-7:30pm for the opening reception of an exciting exhibition by the Crescent Hall Quilters in the CitySpace Gallery. Check out the beautiful quilts, meet the quilters, and enjoy cider and snacks, including pumpkin bread from Eppie’s!
The Crescent Hall Quilters formed more than nine years ago, inspired by an idea from public housing resident Teresa Stinnie. She envisioned community members learning to quilt and growing as neighbors. Teresa shared her idea with now Vice Mayor Holly Edwards, who found the group’s quilting teacher, Del Horan. Group members started out learning the basics of quilting by hand. Now, they are able to understand measurements and master even the most difficult quilt patterns. Francine Payne and Helen Stevens currently provide guidance for the group.
Crescent Hall is one of Charlottesville’s seven public housing sites. Constructed in the 1970s for the elderly and disabled, it is now slated for rehabilitation.
All quilts in the exhibition were crafted by the Crescent Hall Quilters and are for sale. The exhibit will be on display through December 30, 2011. For more information, please contact Sarah Lawson.
