Charlottesville Area Quilters Guild at CitySpace Gallery

Summer's Song 6959 Medium Piedmont Council for the Arts (PCA) will host an exhibition of quilts from the Charlottesville Area Quilters Guild as the February 2013 exhibit in the CitySpace Gallery.

A First Fridays Opening Reception will be held on Friday, February 1 from 5:30-7:00pm. Many of the quilters will be in attendance and Kristine Cushman, a professional harpist and quilter, will perform during the reception.

Formed in 1987, the Charlottesville Area Quilters Guild is an umbrella organization that serves more than 150 quilters in Charlottesville and surrounding areas. Currently, there are six chapters that meet weekly and the guild exhibits their work every other year.

Members share their love for quilting by participating in what they call “challenges” throughout the year. For example, some of the quilts featured in this exhibition were inspired by a photo from the Downtown Mall and served as an opportunity for the quilters to learn different techniques of transferring image to fabric. Other featured quilts depict a “play on words” pictorially.

The quilts from the exhibit will not be for sale, but it will be possible to purchase raffle tickets during the reception for a handmade quilt. Proceeds will be donated to the Charlottesville Free Clinic. To learn more, please visit www.quilts.avenue.org.

The exhibit will be on display through February 26, 2013.
