The extraordinary French-American Gospel Music Workshop Exchange will celebrate Bastille Day a little early this year with Singing the Gospel, a unique musical, cultural and inspirational experience on Monday, July 12. Festivities begin at noon, with an official welcoming ceremony for the French performers in front of the Paramount Theater. The performance will be held inside the Paramount, starting at 7:00pm.
Singing the Gospel features 65 French musical ambassadors from Charlottesville’s Sister City, Besançon, joining 100 American performers in a three-part program of Love, Harmony and Unity. Larry Vickers – former Broadway dancer and choreographer for French and American theater, cinema, and the Moulin Rouge – returns home to Virginia from Paris to produce and direct the special concert.
Student filmmakers from Charlottesville’s Light House Studio will record all phases of the 2010 Exchanges and produce a documentary film spotlighting 17-year old Trevon Cook, a student at Albemarle High School and organizer of a successful youth gospel choir, as well as 13-year-old Emily Henline of Staunton.
Tickets ($12, reserved seating) can be purchased online or at the Paramount Theater Box Office.
