Tony Award-winning dancer and choreographer Bill T. Jones will be an Artist in Residence at the University of Virginia from Nov. 9 through 15. A 1994 MacArthur Fellow, Jones has garnered an international reputation as one of the most innovative leaders in the performing arts world. During his visit, Jones will produce a collaborative dance piece with members of the University and Charlottesville communities that will be performed on November 15 on UVA’s Lawn.
The collaborative piece, “100 Migrations,” will be an abstract work based on the words and teachings of Lincoln and how they resonate with participants today. The theme of migrations creates links across time and space through patterns of movement inspired by an image of the tall figure of Lincoln lying diagonally across his deathbed.
